Temp's must drop pretty low [illegible] fairly regularly now. I would imagine that all the ponds will last thru the entire year now. All have plenty of water. This years larvae show no signs of metamorphosis. In pond #1 all of the 1957 larvae are metamorphosed and gone. The 1958 larvae are very difficult to collect. Tend to stay hidden in the litter. Overcast sky, wind & chip from the trees make work more difficult. Finally got a series of 1958 larvae from ponds 1,2+3. Saw abundant larvae in Pond #4 but did not take any. Water temp ranged from 5.3 to 6.0 C. In open ponds (2+3) the larvae are easy to see + catch. But where there is litter they tend to hide. Reminds me very much of the first days collecting this June when the 1957 larvae were first emergents (See notes for June 1958). Saw only two gir. Rana muscosa & no Hyla regilla. Almost too cold for frogs chorus. Hyla although present here, are not very abundant. Large R. muscosa larvae in ponds 3+4. Saw only few in Pond #2 + more in Pond #1. None of those seen were transformings. Left early + arrived home about 9 pm.
