J.D. Anderson 1958 Journal July 23 Trip to Carson Pass, El Dorado & Amador Co., Calif. Left Albany at 4:50 am with N. Johnson in Johnson car. Drove to Walnut Creek to pick up Tom McElhage. Got slightly lost trying to find meeting place. Finally made contact & left Walnut Creek about 6:05. Drove to Dublin then onto US50 to Stockton. Turned off on State Rt 89 following it to Carson Pass area. Passed through some interesting country west of Jackson. Cedenostoma & oak growing low - 3ft at most - and covering ground in a creeping fashion. Stopped for gas in Jackson. Soon after Jackson we hit Yellow Pine & began climbing. First stop was at Tragedy Springs, 8000ft. Amador G & A small snow pond found tucked away south of the road. Only 10 ft x 8 ft. Worked it for awhile but it began raining hard. Soon turned into a heavy hailstorm & it was impossible to see anything. Storm lasted from 10:15 am to 10:40. After hail let up it continued raining and got very cold. Drove past to a large pond at Carson Spgs, 7222 ft. Drove past to Silver Lake. Stopped at N end of lake where Rt 89 crosses the spillway. Checked edges of lake for Ambrostoma larval with no luck. At this bend there is an isolated bay separated from main part of lake by a spit of land. Two bodies are
