G. D. Anderson 1958 Journal June 12 7mi.w. Barney, 4300 ft. Shasta Co. Calif. Varied Thrushes which strengthened the impression. However much work in bottom produced no amphibians or reptiles. Lots of maple scattered thru canyon. Yellow Pine & Juniper Cedar common on higher glades. On way back from canyon & chose to the beginning of Jkt & collected 3 Ensatina eschscholtzi. These taken under slab of bark lying on ground. A forein's slope (see sp. acc.). Back to camp for lunch, then went N out of camp & up to top of heavily timbered slopes. Followed all stream in area hoping to get to some sort of pond but I was unsuccessful. Spent most of afternoon doing this & turning logs. Got just 1 Yerbonater & that's all !! After supper me (Ward, not I) drove towards Barney & stopped in the oak belt 2/3 way down East slope. Ward tried Screech Owl calls & got 1 specimen. Spent rest of night hunting Spotted Owls & Flammulated owls near Hatchet Summit with no luck. Got one answer which may have been a Spotted Owl. Back to camp arrived by 1am. June 13 Barney to Berkeley Calif. Up at 5 am broke camp & on road by 7am. Arrived in Berkeley at about 1 pm :t 15 min.
