J.D. Anderson 1958 Journal June 9 10 mi. W. Carby, 5500 ft., Modoc Co., Calif. area N.W. of camp. Good habitat, lot of tall yellow pine & incense cedar with many young trees coming up. Got 1 Zalommoled at 11:00 pm and heard another soon after. Did not collect as since it talked for only a short while & then moved on. Also heard 1 how - what owl & several Horned owls. Returned to camp at 12:15 am soon after hearing what we suspected were Flying squirrels. Will try trapping some tomorrow. During the night some rodent came into the tent & chewed the sawhile laces off one of Ned's boots & chewed clean thru the tongue of the other. Could be those squirrels again. June 10 Up at 5:30 am. A bright morning for one. After breakfast I drove N.W. out of camp in the truck to check Mud Jake for Amblyptoma. About 5 miles out of camp the road became too slick with mud to drive any faster. After wrestling with the chain I was able to back the truck to a decent surface & return to camp. After this it was 10 am before I got to do any collecting. Sun still shining, sky clear, for warmer than any day then for. Worked Pine Ridge & East of camp. Got 1 Cnemidophorus shiltonicus - almost immediate - under bark again & in timber which they seem to prefer. Got several Sceloporus occidentalis in here. 1 Hyla regilla hopping thru the pine forest. Saw Red-tail with a fledgling. Returned to camp at noon. I pm took off S.W. & then up a canyon which leads to Happy
