Jan.31. Trip to Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz Co., & Saratoga Santa Clara.
Still for a few seconds & blended in beautifully with
the deck, muddy soil under logs. After our movement
or part of collector they moved rapidly to escape
using body undulation of Desmognathus. In fact
isolated behavior is quite reminiscent of Desmognathus.
We followed Rt 9 via Ben Lomond, Boulder Creek &
Saratoga. Many likely regions were investigated for
Ganidea & Dicamptodon but with no luck. At
Saratoga high flood waters have worked away
through habitat of Ganidea & much else else also.
a group of some type of eggs found under a
rock 4 ft about level of stream. They were not
suspended of Plethodontid eggs but did resemble
them. Under a pile of boards 50 ft above level of
stream we collected Eurycea, Taricha + 3 Batrachomys.
Returned home via Rt 9 to Albany & thence to
Rt 17 & home to Berkeley at 7:32 P.M.
