Journal March 21 Valencia Lagoon, Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. 9th - 9:45-10 - In woods - 1♀ Encatniae 10th 10:10-10:25 - Bonts 4 Hylas Rain light until 7:15, then stopped until 9:15. Rained heavily until 9:50, then stopped. Sky began to clear. Could see stars. Since nothing much doing I left at about 10:35. Interesting that the one Cambrystone was a gravid & facing the pond. No other morrises. I suspect that she is about the last struggle. Most other O'JY's & ? have bred & left the pond already. Spent approx. 30 min. prowling in woods with lantern. Saw only 1 gravid♀ Encatniae. Should try this again, it was a good strong head lamp. Heard ? Horned owls talking tonight for first time this spring. April 11 Valencia Lagoon, Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. Left Albany 7:30 am. Planning to stay over at Rio del Mar if floods haven't caused too much damage. Arrived Valencia at 12 am. Turned into Bonta Rd. & sunk down several feet into a mud slide just a few yards off the paved road. Worked for half an hour but couldn't get out. Finally pulled out by Water Co. truck. Drove around to E. entrance but couldn't get far that way either. Run off has cut deep gullies with
