J.D. Anderson 1958 Journal March 3 Valencia Fagoon & Elliott, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. Left Albany 7 am & drove to Valencia Fagoon. Worked SW & W end of pond with dip net all morning. Got no larvae at all but found several eggs of A - m. croceum. There were just hatching; one larva escaping from jelly as I handled egg. Probably explains why I got no larvae. Hatching are tiny & very hard to net. After lunch worked the Elliott Pond & got 10 larvae - between 20 - 35 mm. Total lengths - see species account. In both ponds invertebrates are "blooming" in fantastic numbers. Ostracode made water almost soupy. Fairy shrimp - Eubranchopus abundant at Valencia. Snails & small clam ( Pisidium ?) also abundant. Hyla tadpoles in great numbers also. At Valencia the Elloborus is coming up fast at margins of pond. Water still muddy most places but clearing at shallow edges. Water temp at edge of Valencia - 12.0°C at 11 am. Time & site of eggs. Worked oak woods turning logs until 4:30 pm. Then took family to supper & home.
