J.D. Anderson 1958 Journal Feb. 9. Valencia Lagoon, Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. may well be there but I couldn't see them with all the silt in the water. Finished this check about 10:30 pm. Sky overcast yet. Worked oak woods for about 1 hour but found nothing. Got 1 ♀ & 2 ♂ m. croceum in the pit (described in notes of Jan. 9). Looks like a spent ♀ may indicate breeding - dissection will tell. Drove over to Ellicott Pond at 11:30 am. Sun out now, sky partly cloudy. Water much clearer here. Pond at maximum size - about same as on Jan 24. Found Camptostoma eggs abundant along shallow edges. Hydra regilla eggs everywhere. Checked logs in Willow Stand but saw nothing but Hydra. Collected about 65 eggs in late severalfold - necrota stages. Saw no eggs which looked like A. trigenium. These may be in deeper water or hidden. Ate lunch at 12:30 & returned to Valencia at 1:15. Spent afternoon taking notes on pond + buying large tin cans for traps. Ate at 4:30 & returned to Valencia for evening road check. 5:30 pm Hydra regilla chown began - just before sunset. 1st road check - 6 - 6:15 pm - Car to look oak to garage. 13 Hydra regilla - Trap #2 - 1 Hydra 2nd road check - 6:20 - 7 pm - 3. A. m. croceum, 1 Hydra, 1 Batrachoseps - Traps = 0. 3rd check - 7:05 - 7:40 1 A. m. croceum; Trap #1 - 1 croceum.
