J.D. Anderson 1958 Journal Jan 9 Valencia Lagoon, Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz Co., Calif part of day. Sky overcast, humidity (this fog.) temp about 12°C. Walked wood in usual fashion looking for croceum, made three round trips to spring & garage. No salamanders. 7pm drove back to la delva area. Checked in water for adult - no luck. At 7:05 it began to rain heavily. Decided to try road driving - for Vanicha over near the Edwards place. 1 km with no herb. 7:30 pm we drove back past la delva pond. Got a large P tigrinum nearby. In next 35 min. we picked up 2 more live P tigrinum + 1 D O R ?. My suspicion confirmed at last. Left for home at 9 pm. Arrived home 11:30pm. Jan 23 Valencia Lagoon, Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz Co., Calif Left Berkeley at 5:30 pm in heavy rain. Rain all the way to Santa Cruz. Arrived Rio del Mar at 8pm. Decided to try driving the Elliott Rd for A. tigrinum during the heavy rain. Made 3 complete trips along length of the road but found nothing of interest. 9:15 pm took traps + net into Elliott pond which is rapidly filling. Set out 11 traps. Tried to check around for croceum activity but driving rain made it difficult to see into water. Saw large P tigrinum in 6" of water at 10:10. She got away. 10:15 pm saw + collected a large ? in 4" of water. Very easily
