Ambystoma macrodactylum
Feb.22 Valenciaagoon, Birdel Mar, Santa Cruz Co., Calif.
at 11 pm. Found 5 ♀♀ on Bonita between jet and Green House. 2 of these were bant for study. 2 were marked & released. 1 was #100 (LF2;LH5) ♀ who was marked & released at 2 pm today. It was crossing the road 75 yards West of junction with "Salmonder" road.
It had thus traveled
Feb.22. 1.5 mi.SE.Sa delva Beach, Santa Cruz Co., Calif.
Checked edges of pond area, willows wood piles etc but found no salamanders. There are now several ditch like areas which have 4-5" of water in them. Other scattered areas have 1-2" water. Less than 1/3 of total pond area is water. Left at 3:30 pm returned at 9 pm.
Collected 3 ♂♂ from largest flooded area. Those were all in 2-3" of water and found by use of Coleman lantern. 3 others (⊗) were seen but these escaped. No ♀♀ seen. Water temp 2" below surface 17.0°C. Air temp. 10.5°C. a very strong wind blowing from the West.
Rained all day & all night.
