J.D. Anderson 1957 Ambystoma macrodactylum Jan 25 Valencia Lagoon, Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. Sketch on bottom of preceding page - arrows indicate location of ad. salamander + direction of movement. Large clump at E end of pond area may be correlated with the many rivolets which flow down from woods at this point. One person found crawling down in such a rivulet. When released she turned back towards woods but when placed back in rivulet she followed it towards the pond area. Could be that salamanders use routes below to find feeding areas. Feb. 22 Valencia Lagoon, Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. 1 gravid ad. ? found at 2 pm under a board 5 yds from Salamander Road 4ke from junction with Bonita . Board elevated 1" from substrate, wet under board. Temp under board 12.4°C, Air temp at top of board 12.6°C. Marked ♀ LF-2; LH 5. Returned ? to original position. At 3:30 pm rechecked + she was in same place. 1 gravid ad. ? found under [illegible] board just E. of from Green House at 3 pm. Body temp. 13.2°C, Temp under board (in letter) 12.6°C. Marked ♀ LF-3; LH-1. Hyla regilla ♂ + Ensatina ♂ found under same board. Between 6:45 pm + 8:40 pm, 15 Ambystoma found by walking Bonita Rd with Coleman Jantz. Those marked + released. 12 ♂♂, 3♀♀. All from ponds coming from woods. Returned to Valencia
