Anderson 1957 Ambystoma macrodactylum Jan 24. Valencia Lagoon, Rio del Mar, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. 1 gravid ? under log 5 yds from large fallen willow. Cl. temp [illegible] (9.2° C), temp under log [illegible] (7.2° C), air temp [illegible] (6.8° C). Abdomen swollen, cloacal lips slightly swollen. Tail fin well developed. When handled it exuded sticky white substance along lateral aspect of basal portion of tail. Very moist under log & quite moist under willow leaf litter in this area. Pattern of small spots, very broken. No color on head. Marked RF3, RH1. After dark entire area (woods, woods, willow clumps) was thoroughly searched but no Ambystoma seen. Did not rain all day & was clear throughout the night. Jan 24. La Selva Beach, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. 1 ad. ♂ collected under an old railroad tie.
