F.D. Anderson 1952 Journal Nov. 18 Valencia Lagoon, La del Mar, Santa Cruz Co., Calib. Left Albany Village at 12:30 pm + drove via usual route to Bio del Mar, arriving there about 2:30 pm. Very slight drizzle between 2:30 + 3:30. Ground wet, showed signs of rainfall of previous night and this morning. No sign of pools in the pond area as yet. Spent most of afternoon in reconnaissance. Set out drift fence + hardware cloth trap about 30 yds from junction of Bonita Rd + Hill road. Set it in thick oak litter. Hard to work in way thick oak litter. At 4 pm I drove to 1.5 mi. S E La del Mar Beach locality. No standing water there as yet, and since it was getting dark I decided not to spend time here. Ate supper at 5 + returned to Valencia. Walked the road - Bonita + Hill Rd with Coleman lantern. Found 26 Ambystoma m. - croceum. Cell ♀♂♀, all but 1 moving toward pond area. Brought 2 back for study, marked + released 17. 7 others seen more not marked. Saw 5 Batrachoseps + 2 jew. Encroaching on food. Many snails, slugs, earthworms + millipedes on the move. Heard Hyla regilla singing in woods + saw 5 on road. At 11 pm took a slow drive to La del Mar Beach locality. Saw 1 Quercus + several Hyla but nothing else. Left at 11:45 pm + returned home at 1:45 am.
