Some appear to be nearly totally gray beneath and darker with very little yellowish wash; others are bright oliveaceous yellow beneath." Most of them perch low in brush on hillocks or in washes. Occasionally one is seen perched high on juniper stubs) - Woolly Pewee (many seen perched low down in brush of washes, and high on juniper & Pinyon Stubs, and on y. mahavenous. Pewee call or song only heard occasionally. Empidonax & Pewees seen close together) - Screech Owl (nest + 4 young in Joshua stub at Thomas ranch - description & photo later) - Sparrow Hawk - Nest + 4 eggs + 3 Flicker Eggs in Joshua stub near Owl nest. Description + photo later.) - Western Kingbird (one seen near camp in Cedar Canyon - seem to be restricted more to lower levels) - Boorwill (several heard at dusk near camp) - Barned Owl (one heard after dark)
