June 35 36. Sage brush fastly literally. Sloughs ran into the Pasture land + sage brush + rag dense thick. On the way back we found a dead Gopher Snake 68" long hanging on a fence. In evening set out traps for Reithrodontomys Black Tern - 2 nests were found: 1 containing 3 eggs + the other having one. Located on edge of slough in some stub like thules. Photos obtained June 3. 2 mi S, Payette to a few mi. E. Keging on Snake R., Idaho. Collected two line with none of the desired Reithrodontomys. Shot 8 ground Squirrels (Citadonius) that were in a pasture nearby. Picked up 3 of them + then photo'd their habitat. Met small boys shooting Bana Catesbiana for the legs. Photographed a wounded one. Left camp at 2:30 + drove till dark. June 4. Snake-R. Valley to Powell's Canyon Left Camp this morning a little after Sunrise + stopped along the way to hunt ground squirrels. We found them all to be idahoensis until we crossed the Snake River at Rupert where the country was almost overidden with C. oregonus. The
