Marsch 730 28 Got 5 Howard got 6 while I Tried to photograph the elusive things with no success whatever. May 27. 5 mi. S.E. Map ks. Owyhee Co., Idaho. Collected trap line with no luck + killed 4 squirrels in the morning. All three of us went to Winkler Cr. Due I trapped Pocket Gophers while they went on to get Lemadons* we first saw them enroute to Murphys (they got 7 mall). I only trapped 2 small T. townsendii due to the ranchers irrigating their alfalfa fields. They said they knewed hundreds of them a couple days a go. Citellus oregonus - I did find however at Winkler Cr a colony of those along a parallel irrigation ditch. The holes were on a side bank with the water (3 1/2' across) as a barrier to a large alfalfa field. It wasn't much of a barrier because they would swim across frequently but my approach they crossed back to get other burrows. Collecting them with a .22 was slaught for they stood in the open 10yds away. I almost got a couple with a shovel.
