tapered at tip. Tail, rump & lower back were olive-brown. Trailing edge of [illegible], rounded wings was slightly marginate with dull buff. No Crest Present. Wings beat fast with loud whirring noise. My mind- thought they might be Hungarian (Cistridge introduced this), tho I had never seen one. When arrived back to shack there was considerable disagreement on these characters. Bill said they were brown & had slight crest. Howard saw them in a different place I said he saw two birds with a broad tail & terminal, prominent band of buff; about the size of Gruse. May 25. 6 mi. W. Murphy to 5 mi. S.E. Murphy. Left Comp at about 11 A.M. Drove slowly looking for squirrels with not success. Went on Murphy-Osgana Rd. for about 5 mi. & then turned to left for a couple of ranch houses. Stayed in afternoon on the Gifford ranch & hunted squirrels. Finally camped at a deserted ranch house used as granary several hundred yrs. N. of Giffords. Howard & I set out trap line in low bottoms. On doing this I found a dead range horse that had died giving
