June '35 22 ranch where camp was made was on the Cr. Bordered by tall lunch-grass (as high as 4 1/2'). Since Willows inhabited by Magpies. Around the ranch were many Lombadi Poplars which formed oasis for birds. One wonders if the no. of species in Idaho haven't been increased by man's inhabitation. Slept in Physack. May 23 Castle Cr. to 6 mi W. Murphy, Owyhee Co., Idaho. Collected trap-line at Sunrise. Won 54 feet from Board Twining due to his not get a 50% catch (he got but one yng. Rithrodontomys). I got 6 (1 Dipodomys, 1 O. crinitus, & 4 O. miculatus). Spent morning skinning (Davis & Kincaid Muscat). We packed & Howard got fresh meat in the form of R-r. Phasant just before we left. Left for Murphy (17 mi.) & asked about camping spot thue. We finally ended up in a desulted cabin 16 mi. W. Murphy & cleaned up the story forecating. Set out rat traps, & caught a family 2 large adults 4 large yng. Busy- tailed Woodrats Hawk Spos. - Shot at a hawk that was disputedly in our midsts either an immature Goshawk or Copper Hawk or Red-bellied - in fact
