and I went down the south side of the Snake River (Yulin Falls) with the purpose of getting a Marmot to compare with those on the north side. Only one small one was seen / was unable to obtain it. This lack of presence may be attributed to either lack of rocky conditions or sage, under which to feed. There was sage farther south of the river but no grass. The river just below the bridge is about 100 yds. wide on the S. side downstream there occur little rocky islets on which medium sized willows grow. The banks are bordered with willows, occasional grassland. Many Magpie nested in the willows on the islands & were seen carrying food for ggg. sticks, probably which were for the dome of the nest. Crowning + yellow-headed Blackbirds were common. On Eastern Kingbird was seen on a fince, its white tipped tail being very prominent. About 5 hr. later it was seen again. One crow seen across the river. We hiked about 1 mile below bridge & on our way back we a pair of Blue-winged Teal in Nibbed sloughs containing patches of tules + water cresc (2). We approached within 10 yds. when they took off
