Oakland, Calif. to 5 mi. E. Winnemucca
Nevada - May 11, 1935
As a guest of Mr. William
B. Davis Howard Twining (V.C.
Zoology Student) and myself started
for Idaho with an itinerary of
most of the southern part of
the state, for the purpose of
gathering information of the
mammals of that region for
Mr. Davis' doctor's thesis. The
weather of the day was mostly
cloudy and westerly winds west
of the Nevada-Calif. divide.
Plenty of snow at the summit
where we had supper at the
Morden Ski Lodge of the Sierra
Club. Continued driving until
1:20 A.M. when we pulled over
to side of road 5 mi. E. Winnemucca,
and had 1st night out in
a level land covered with
nothing but sage (Artemisia
tridentata). An icy wind was blowing.
Bird list for today:
Red-winged Blackbird
Western Meadowlark
Sparrow Hawk
Barn Swallow
Brewer's Blackbird
Cliff Swallow
Corwin's Bridge
California Quail
