(5) Badger certainly did run like a dog and did a great deal of scurrying and blowing. July 21 Went out to the next boxes of the Hooded Merganser. Bowles for Cage of Merganser Eggs put in a half dozen Boxes around the little swamp lake. The first box we encountered contained a little screech owl sitting in the opening - as Bowles in the same place it was in April. I went up to the next -- 20' up in a maple near water and the edge -- and found the remains of the owls nest. I was surprised to find that the owl flew - altho the day was dark and cloudy! We went out on the Lake in a boat and came up to a box where young Mergansers had hatched raised that year. The box still had some light colored down
