July 24 I spent the day in cleaning up and generally packing and arranging material to send home. The weather is sultry but otherwise pleasant. July 25 Went over at noon to Seattle to see J. E. Brown and his skin collection. He works in the Customs office there in town. He is a very pleasant fellow, elderly and rather quiet but capable of saying something sharp or witty when he wants! We spent a pleasant evening in company with Mr. and Mrs. Brown. They live out near Lake Union, a large body of fresh water connected by canal with the Sound. Brown's collection is one entirely of the state. He has things pretty well represented and although he can't do much more to do he is the
