The guard stayed in camp and returned with the regiment at 4 P.M. 19/ Morning Camp over To inspection of field government and detail lectures. In the afternoon spent in town and enjoyed Bogus's Company as usual. Spent the evening, looking over "The Birds of Washington" Of course it is out of work late in certain parts, yet I learned much about Washington Fox Sparrows, Linnepettles And the like. The books are beautiful & much the same style as "Birds of California." The writing is however more correct and a little less wild than by Jack Bowles (who receives practically no credit for it) 20/ Went out in the late A.M. to take
