13 From the ridge where I hiked I could see Mt Adams and Helens 12,000 ft peaks. Despite Rainier was a long ridge of snowy jagged peaks like those seen in the Sierras. The country is sure wonderful. Great meadows Hemlock trees snowcap ridgy - glaciers all at 6000 ft. on an auto road. To say nothing of birds and flowers. I swept over considerable marsh country and among the Cascade and red Heather & try to find a Parmigan but saw none. It was great to clear the Summit brushy again. They seemed to stay very close to timbeline. At 11:30 I left my camp as we left by truck for Lewis at 2 P.M. This return trip was necessarily hurried and we posted thru the same country. I can not tell [illegible] all.
