many forest fires. But we could see that the timber was getting denser and the mountains higher, I missed the high rugged peaks. All the mountains at least those that are wooded are rounded off. We finally camped at Longwire Meadow in the valley below Misqually Glacier and Paradise Valley. - Elev. 7700. This was high up in the mountains. Here I saw Lincoln Sparrow a bird usually of Canadian zone - 15 to ft in the Sierras. Another queer thing however was the Song Sparrow singing along side the Lincoln Sparrows. Several of us started gto a bath church at 8 PM for the Misqually Glacier (4 mi). Of course I could not shake the crowd but saw as much as I could. The trees here are also of high zone. I could not believe that we
