12 Left Camp Lewis
at 7 o'clock in
the morning on an
army convoy bound
for Mt. Rainier Park.
There was a great string
of trucks which was
carefully stopping. The
trip was slow land
we did not arrive
in the park until
2 P.M.
nevertheless all
disagreeable features of
the first part of our
trip were dispelled with -
the 75 mile from
Lewis to the Park was
almost a continuous
forest. First the country
was level then we
crossed several large
river valley and
finally began to ascend
when the foothills altho
they looked no more
like foothills in Cal than down the country
around Lake Tahoe.
The weather was very
