1980 R.C., Mumme 3 Hermit Thrush Hastings Reservation (19 Dec) up and down Big Creek, seeing about 10 Hermit Thrushes, only one banded, LPK#N/LPk, and that was on 2 occasions right next to the water trough. I also thought I saw another banded bird, Orange Metal/(?), near the water trough. However, I did learn that there is a pretty constant flow of Thrushes between the Big Creek Willows and the side of SHill. This was very apparent by sitting in long field wd watching the willows. I saw ONLY zero HT's downstream OF the water trough along Big Creek, I then surveyed along the two ravines bounding the SWuest Ridge RAVINE. I saw no HTs along the north ravine, 3 NB HTs on the south ravine. I also learned in the S. Ravine that HT's come in to my Eastern Screech Owl whistles. Perhaps if I tried this in the N Ravine, I might have seen other HTs. The question still remains: Where are the other Hermit Thrushes. Still one large section of SHill I haven't surveyed yet, so perhaps there 21 Dec Pam, Walter & I ran the two nets on BC, our 18 ft net on the SH trough, for an hour and a half (3:30 - 5:00 pm) catching one more HT, this time banded with #1 bands. Cloudy, light drizzle. 23 Dec More searching for HTs on the side of School Hill. Today area I covered the entire north slope over roughly the betw two trails ("Red House trail", "Main Trail") map or back
