1980 R.L. Mumme Melanerpes formicivorus Warp 5 4 June I wander around uphere after seeing birds here from Road 1. No nests found, but a couple of good-looking holes in a big Black Oak SE of the granary, in the canyon just "downstream" from Valhalla canyon. 8 June Watching from PO Hill, a see a bird feeding a fledgling in the granary! Looks like theyve already done it. 23 July Roosting after Walter sets ambush. 4 birds roost in the lower Black Oak hole. At one time, 5 were in, but one flew out late. At least -6 birds in the group, however. 24 July Successful Ambush! 4 birds (2 ad σ, 1 ad ?, 1 Juv molting into ? (?) plumage. At least 2 birds (I suspect both juv niles) still remain.
