1980 R.L.Mumme 5 Melanerpes formicivorus Finch 22 Aug looks like a fairly solid ♂♂. Some sap-sucking in the live oaks overhanging the parking lot. All the 2nd brood 'babies' here, also ♀500 x ♂501, ♂63, and I think ♂282. Cooper's Hawk 0850, strange development. All the Finch birds fly over and land in the Road 1 granary, making me worry if the Rd 1 members had all perished when the nest-roost tree fell during the fire. I do see ♀383 at the Rd 1 granary, and some chasing. Bears investigation still no new ♀ here yet. Also no sign of juv 542 at the moment. Also, a fire casualty was the top of the sycamore (NE of creek) that had some storage holes and the nest holes of earlier years. Don't really understand how it could have fallen, as the thine tree was not really damaged. I suspect It may have fallen before the fire. This interpretation supported by the fact that there is no trace of the stub on the ground, suggesting it was already on the ground when the fire came through. 17 Sept Watching here 0830. Pretty good census, seeing ♂63, ♂66, ♂282, ♀500, ♂501, ♀41, ♀543, ♀J6/3, and J6/4. All seen well. ♂♂540 + 542 and J6/6 the only ones I missed, but I suspect they're still around. Still no new ♀ here. 10 Oct Here at 0945, No stores yet. ♂63, ♂66, ♂282, ♀500, J6/3 x J6/4 all seen. No new ♀ yet. Later, ♂501, ♀541, ♂540 m/L pink ad I think ♀543 barren/orbme all here. Also ♂542 [illegible] 4pm
