Melanerpes formicivonus
Finch
(29 July) garrickling occasionally. Chased by ♀506 over 1030, complete census except for ♂501
30 July Start 0820. ♂501 is the 1st bird I see, so that completes census. 0900, a flurry of dominance (2fina).
♂541 pecks both ♀616 & ♀614!
I also saw 616 pecked by either ♂543 or 613, wasn't sure which. 0905, I think it was ♂543. ♂543 sapsucking from Live Oak next to the "parking lot"
0925, a good case of ♀613 pecking at ♀616 while being fed by ♂882 & ♂282, wrapping it up for the youngsters. 0940, 2 more cases of feeding 66.
♂614 pecking at ♀616, at 0915, ♀500 really jumped on ♀613 as it flew to the granary. D30 end.
31 July Start 0830. 0850, Interesting, ♂501 was pecking hell out of ♀616, trying to drive him out of the nest tree granary,
Ad Don! and then ♂282 gave ♂501 a sharp peck! Very interesting.
0900, a very vicious interaction between ♀613 & 616. Locked bills, tumbled a few feet in the nest tree. A tough fight, but ♀613 clearly came out on top. Then 2 cases of ♂614 >> 616,
J Don and then, ♂541 came along to peck away both ♀616 & ♀614. On top of all that, ♂66 gave ♂501 a sharp peck, too. End 0930.
