Parula americana
(Northern Parula)
Hastings Reservation, Monterey County, CA
(22 July) marked drop at the end. Further, note that the weather today was very southeasternish, perfect for a Parula Warbler. Yesterday (21 July) was the first rain we'd had in months, and it was rainy, foggy, and overcast all day. Today was sunny, but the excess moisture on the ground made it very humid and muggy. As a matter of fact, walking down School Hill hearing Scolding Scrub Jays and smelling the damp morning earth, I really flashbacked to Archbold Biological Station. Hearing the warbler song was just too much, I almost didn't stop to find the bird, because Black-throated Gray Warbler songs have reminded me of Parulas earlier this year, but the "Florida imagery" of the whole scenario spurred me to look for the singer. Good thing I did.
