1980 Ronald L. Mumme Melanpes formicivorus Westgate Hastings Reservation 1 April a NB♀ here eating acorn, at 1400. Watch started at 1345. 1430, ♂58 No leg shows up, also eats acorn. (F) with ♀. No sign of NB♂ yet. 1445, I can scarcely believe it, but ♂58, old stumpy, brings in a capped live oak acorn and starts to work it!! Acorns still on the trees on April 1? Very impressive! He Exchanges wukas with ♀724. Where's ♂721? End 1500 21 April A bird looking out of the west sycamore hole at the the "center studs, top," the hole they were roosting in last [illegible] summer. It may mean a nest that Walter won't be able to get to, or just reflect bad weather. 9 Sept Start 1030, Good old ♂58 no leg flycatching from sycamore Also, ♀599 metal/blue-red, also flycatching. These guys eat acorns I do believe still have a fair number of acorns put away. 11 Nov Start 1415. Old one leg ♂58 still here, also ♀599 metal/
