Melanerpes formicivorus
Blom one Hastings Reservation
29 March Cruised by here at 1130 to check out the post-manipulation activity. A few days ago, Walt ambushed here, removed the breeding ♂479 (♀478 was still here), and the ♂ was replaced by a 1st year Corral Viejo bird!
I saw the new ♂, ♀496 mauve/green. [illegible] Certainly no fancy revolution activity here. I'll come back later.
Pink/metal
1 April Start watch 0900. New ♂ or-Lpink/Glipa here, plus one other bird as I arrive. 0930, ♀494 white-red/m
- eats acorn bit (F). 0935, she take a quick look in the hole north of the granary tree! 0945 ♀494 chases double-or/white-on
- junc from granary. 1000, ♂178 D)

- chases an intruder of unknown sex! ♀494+♀496 flying around together. ♀494 gave up a bit of acorn to ♀496, moving away from where she was working, allowing ♀496 a look.
New ♂ probes in dead stubs, gets earwig! (F). The ♂ seems to be checking out every potential nest hole. He's also looked in and entered a hole in the VO north of the North Hole Cornma facing pond. End 1100.
8 April Start 1500. 3 birds in granary as I arrive, and it sounded like [nest] one was working on a nest hole, on the S side of the granary, or even in the adjacent Valley Oak. 1550, 3 birds hanging out → on "The knoll," 1600 ♀494 and another ♀ chase magpie, ♂513 eats acorn (F). ♀496 also here, probably also chased magpie. ♀494 flycatches (F). 1645, ♀478 Metal/ with a
