1980 R.L. Mumme 4 Melaerpes formicivorus Low Hay 3 May A nest watch here today, the highpoint being 521 from Plaque intruding. 5 May Roosting, and I was confused. I thought I saw 5307 enter at 2015 hrs, but then "he" was replaced by a bird with either a metal or yellow band (I thought the latter) But, I did not see the wingstreamer as 5307 left! So it could have been 5307 or 515. 6 May A nest watch, and the eggs have hatched! Even 511 active, in the nest as I arrived. Also 5461 shows his face. 13 June Start watch 0945. 1105, finally I see a juv, all dark pink/green band on R leg, presume J588 J515, 5307 also around. Birds hanging out in "roosting area". No Flycatching seen yet today. Also J589 Yellow-(Pink. 23 June Start 0900. Dominance, J588 [illegible] an unknown juv, perhaps J587. 0925, a juv intruder Yellow/Green J561 from 1800, no doubt. Just up the valley from home. Actually, that probably was who J588 chased. 1100, Sheer boredom. Birds over on Far Tortuga, etc. 30 June Start 0640. 0900, These guys are a problem. They are not coming to the granary, even though plenty of acorns mostly in UHay area, and also Far Tortuga. However, I did manage to see everybody save 511. All 3 juvs OK, no dominance seen, though. A bit of rain up here. End 0910. Mauve/L Blue 1 July Trying again 0720. J LBlue (un) /Metal here, with an weird NB 5 (much red on forehead), and another juv, NB. Hard to tell who this could be. NB 5 chased by 515, NB Ju chased briefly b, 5307. I also think I saw a NB 5
