1980 R.L. Mumme 2 Melanerpes formicivorus Lower Haystack (15 April) 1050, 311 white-yellow/white " /metal here, eats acorn (F). 307 + 415 definitely hanging out. 20 minutes together in granary, nobody else around. Only fleeting glimpses of 461 + 511. Interesting, especially in relation to Nancy's dominance interactions + copulations at roosting. End 1030. 17 April 501 at Plaquer briefly. 18 April Start watch 0640. Nobody. Correction, 515 and 307 here as I arrive 0655, Hot Damn! A fantastic copulation between 307 + 515. 2 separate mount exchanges, harrassing first (quickly) then a long, prolonged, tail twist, cloacal contact copulation, 5-7 sec. duration. The copulation took place to in the tree south of the granary, with the hole that faces straight down. 0710, 307 chases NB. Haven't seen 515 after watching her fly to granary. In rest, perhaps? 0715, She's back in sight. Where is 461, though? 0725, 461 shows up! Good! Created wackalily by 307 + 515.. End 0810 21 April A nasty rainy day, checking holes here. Zero. 24 April Start watch 0920 515 in granary, perhaps others as I arrive. Yes, 307. 515 eats acorn bits (F). 461 shows, he and 515 fly toward Arnold, toward knoll where other holes are, perched in "tape hole" tree. As far as I could tell, 307 did not follow, although he may have. 1003 307 + 515 still there, going to check 1045 Everybody seems to have disappeared. Nobody in any holes that I know of. Not much happening. End 1130.
