1980 R.L. Mummr Melanerpes formicivonus Hay - Blom 30Sept Start 0820. Seems to be an intruder here, lots of chasing just W of the granary. Lots of acorn gathering action, Primarily from the nest tree and the wooded area NE of the nest tree. Flight times are about [illegible] sec to nest tree, 15[illegible] sec to other area. I'm not sure they're getting anything [illegible] from the nest tree, perhaps just derapping, etc. Early there was a very persistent intruder around. When I first arrived there was a Juv F intruder with light bands, perhaps F589 from Low Hay. Don't know if that was the cause of the chasing. Acorn storage data on back. I saw 40 stored in 100 minutes between 0825-1005. Only M173, F484 M576 around, so looks bad for J573-J575. 1030, I find the tree These guys have been using. A live oak loaded with acorns 2 Dec Start 1230. M173 or/M, F484 M576 [Blue-Blk]/[Blue-Blk] all seen well. Very little storing but some fooling around in the granary. End 1430.
