1980 R.L. Mumme 2 Melanerpes formicivorus Hay - Blom (29 June) Perhaps an interaction, J575 looked pretty subordinate next to J573, but I couldn't be sure. That would roughly complete the table (assuming linearity). Thus so far its J574 < J576 < J575 < (J573) iffy good! very iffy m green 4 July Cruise by the cattail pond at 1145, 2 Juvs here (573, 574 m/Red-white, and J576 CB1-Blk/CB-Blk. It looked to me that J576 looked away when J574 flew in. This does not square well with what I have seen previously. These guys may need more work. All my interactions (except J575 >> J576) have been pretty iffy. 5 July Start 0830. Everybody here seen. One very, iffy interaction, J575 seemed sub to J574. Who knows, really, though. 1005, strange, ? and 2 Juvs enter a hole below a brood patch that faces the granny (hole is the 2° hole tree). They wouldn't really be thinking about renesting, would they? 7 July Start 0735 with an iffy interaction. J574 looked subordinate to somebody, I think J575. Another iffy one, J573 seemed to have his way" with J574. light jus 587 wht-Blk/Bpals/Blue from Low Hay intruding here, chased by ♂173, J573. 0810, a good one, J573 a light peck at J576. 0830 a good J573 >> J576 takes acorn away from latter. 0900, J584 here too, from Low Hay, chased by somebody. 0930, J575 "relieves" J576 of an acorn, looked like a decent J575 >> J576. I'll try to summarize. For sure J576 is subordinate
