1980 R.L. Mumme 3 Melanerpes formicivorus 1800 (22 June) 1720, J564 pecks J565, ad o present 1815, a possible case of J562 nailing J561! Pretty sure but it happened fast. 2\frac{1}{2} 23 June Start 1125. J561 who had been at Low Hay an hour ago, now 1\frac{1}{2} here. Boring, ed 1300. 25 June Start 1645. J563 peck J564 twice, adults near. 2 0630, J562 > J564. Also J564 pecked a juvenile that may have been J561, although also quite possibly J565 End 1845. 30 June Start 0945. J564 dominated an unk J as F arrived (the 2 latter moved away). Suspect J565. 1145: Dullsville. Bad, but only J562 & J564 seen. July at 0700, J563 Metal/DB1-wnt(N) way over on Blomquist Yellow/L13 line disblue-or/DB1-or fenceline, flycatching from utility pole, \frac{1}{2} way up Haystack. Strange, Q478 also here! 2\frac{1}{2} Watching at granary 1645 1800 Finally some action, J562 pecks J565 then J564 in granary, adults around. Some sap-sucking action in the live oak just up the draw from the granary. Even a hummingbird in attendance. 1910, I thought that I may have seen some evidence of J562 dominant to J563 as the latter looked somewhat subordinate in J562 presence. A critical relationship but very iffy! J526 also approach Q193 feeding J563 did not look especially concerned. 4 July. Start 1630 J 561 Yellow-Black lounging 1715, J561 extracts acorn starts working it then "bully" J562 wnt-green/N comes along, pecks him 2 times then forces J561 to give up acorn.
