1980 R.L. Mumme 21 Melanerpes formicivorus Plaque (22 May) Continuing watching nest hole at 0820, 0901, ♀496, ♂473 ♀494 enter hole, in that order, all down. All Leave (♂, ♀494, ♀496). Ending watch 0905. 23 May Quite a day here at Plaque, as we detect egg-tossing Rust egg! once again!! Unfortunately, the exact situation was 21.1 x somewhat muddled, but the results were clear: ♀494 16.6 Red-white/Red tossed two eggs out of the nest! Here are the details. Start 0615 (0515). Nest empty! 0701 ♀496 enters, garrickts from inside twice at 0704 0707, ♀494 at hole, looks in, doesn't enter. 0725, ♀494 and ♂473 enter nest! 0728, ♂473 leaves 0730.45, ♀♀ leave, ♀496 first. Going to check hole 0745. Hole checked -- still nothing { 2 eggs laid (?) 0815.30 ♀496 enters. 0817 ♀494 enters. 0821 ♀494 leaves, ♀496 heads out. Back down 0821.45. 0823 ♀496 leaves, reenters immediately! 0824 ♀494 enters, ♂473 follows at [illegible] 0824.45 All 3 inside nest! 0826, ♀494, ♂473 leave (a follow!), 0830, ♀494 enters again, ♂473 follows her in again (another follow). 0835, everyone leaves ♂473, ♀494, ♀496. → 0840, ♀494 Red-white/Red at nest, enters only momentarily, as I leave blind trying to scare her off. (I wanted to check the nest, and didn't want her to get in) Nonetheless, she sneaks in for about 5 sec, and I, walking toward the hole, see her leave
