1980 R.I. Mumme 5 Melanerpes formicivorus Plaque Hastings Reservation (11 April) tail twist underneath, good cloacal contact. This time, ?494 was right there watching to both of them, not doing anything, and ?473 not doing anything to her. She was even giving the tail raise-wing droop water. I believe that makes 5 copulations between those two birds. 0710, Absolutely no sign of ?522. In the big Blue Oak west of the 6bs, the 4 birds here chased an intruder, which flew toward the "Y" sycamores. I suspect it was a School Hill ?: Both were reportedly hanging out there yesterday. 0715, the 2 ?? are really following ?473 around, and are really inviting mountings. ?476 seems especially "brazen" and "immodest" ?473 seems to refuse most of these offers, but not all. End 0730. 13 April Start watch 1505. Nobody around 1630, Mount exchange between ?521 + ?494. 1635, ?494 eats tipulid. Mounting was brief, no cloacal contact. ?496 being very inconspicuous, staying away from the main area, 1730, Looks like ?521 chasing ?496 some more, but not completely certain of the participants. 1740, another very good copulation. ? mounted first, followed by (5-7 sec) long, long cloacal contact, tail twist, etc. At a great distance, could not tell who it was. End 1745. 14 April Start watch 0710. ?496 definitely seems to have problems here. Did not see her, plus saw chaves up on "Adobe Hill". Only encouraging sign was that while ?521 + ?494 near granary, I heard water from Adobe Hill. End 0800 Trying again 0435. Cretins on Buckeye stealing walkers pack+ rope ladder interrupt us, ?521 still chasing ?496
