1980 R.L. Mumme Melanerpes formicivorus Plaque (10 April) with ♂473 ♀1455, a big mounting exchange between 2 birds, one a good looking copulation, but I couldn't see any bands. 1502. A good mounting copulation between ♀496 and ♂473. She mounted him briefly first, then he mounted her for 3-4 seconds, good tail twist, cloacal contact. Shortly after, ♂521 chased her again! He still don't like her! The ♀s here walk with drooped wings, raised tails. Seems like a definite invitation. 1530, Another good copulation mount [illegible] between ♂473 and ♀496, I just saw the tail end, foot good contact 3-4 sec duration, etc. 1548 ♂521 1555, [illegible] ♂521 chases ♀496 again. He seemed to have disappeared for awhile 1605, Yet another copulation by ♂473 + ♀496. Cooper's Hawk flies by at 1616. 1611 A quickie mount exchange (no cloacal contact) between ♂473 and (this time) ♀494!! 1615, ♂473 chases out hatch End 1640, 11 April Start watch 0600 ♂473 and the 2♀♀are definitely associating. ♂521 is not getting involved. 0625, [illegible] making exchanges with ♀24 w/ ♂21 retraction, 3 more chases of ♀496, Still not completely happy with her. However, he is chasing her less than before. ♀496 flew to the other 3 birds, walked with raised tail, drooped wings. She looks ready, more ready than ♀594. 0655, ♀496 flies to [illegible] ♂473 + ♀494, another prolonged copulation. She mounting him briefly, then ♂473 mounting ♀496, prolonged (4-5) sec
