1979 Ronald L. Mumme Sayornis nigricans (Black Phoebe) Hastings Reservation, Monterey County, CA 7 July Found a Black Phoebe nest today located under the bridge of Carmel Valley Road and Finch Creek, the first crossing SE of Martin Road. The nest was constructed on top of a ledge formed by one of the support girders, [illegible] roughly in the middle of the bridge. Four well-developed nestlings were present. All were well-feathered, showed no trace of an egg tooth, and only slightly enlarged rictal flanges. It looked like that they might fledge within a few days, although they showed no alarm at my approaching the nest and handling them. 17 July At the creek again today, and saw two fledglings being fed by an adult.
