1980 R, C. Mumme 24 Journal Hastings Reservation (20 Aug) It probably fell before the fire, actually. 21 Aug Spent the entire day getting reorganized, collecting insects, etc. 22 Aug Explored some of PO Hill + Post Flat above Road 3. Things do not look good. I saw lots of woodpeckers up there, but no standing granaries. Losses from the fire appear to have been severe. Also watched some at Road 3, Finch, + Road 1 23 Aug Birthday city! A new(er) refrigerator for the cabin with claude & maggies help. Swimming hole action, a fire break around the Road 1 granary, and an excellent watch at 1800. Low Key party in the cabin after dinner with the Hardy's. 24 Aug A fairly low-value morning watching at 1500, Hay Blom, and Low Hay. Swimming hole action, reading, and that was about it. + playing, 25 Aug Watched well at Road 1, poorly at Road 3 + Finch. Walter & I surveyed the scene of destruction on PO Hill with walters, and things look grim. The "Revolution" granary, plus 2 others were destroyed. PO Hill #1 and the Post Flat groups may have come through in OK shape, however. Poor will 26 Aug Flow at the crossings finally ended today. Too busy. Watched with moderate success at Hay Blom + cow hay. Went swimming, then grocery shopping. Roosting at Blom 2 27 Aug Went up to the Arnold & watched very successfully at Lambert, poorly elsewhere. Massive swimming hole cleanup. 28 Aug Set an ambush at Blom 2, Bugs, and that was it 29 Aug Successful (of sorts) ambush at Blom 2. Wood duck for the reservation, Clemys (28 Aug) for the swimming hole
