1980 R.L. Mumme Journal Hastings Reservation 10 May A pretty momentous day. Started off by actually watching #494 at Plaque lay the 1st egg in theirs (hopefully) communal nest. Around-the-clock watches followed, but we celebrated with a great dinner up in the cabin, with the crew plus Rex Merrill and Ian Tate. A dance followed. Good party. 11 May A pretty dismal day, trying to watch Plaque all day, in poor weather. NO egg laid today, possibility or nest abandoned, etc, but at least somebody roosted in the nest. 12 May Also a bad day, wet, cloudy & cold, and Plaque has apparently abandoned them! Shit! Swainson's Thrush continues to sing around the bunkhouse, many Wilson's Yellow, and 1 Townsend's warbler at Finch. routine nest watch at Road 1. 13 May Relaxed. Watched at Plaque, made cookies, cooked dinner, etc, etc. Wrote AOU abstract with Nancy 14 May Another day of shitty [illegible] weather -- cold, cloudy & misty. Dabbled some at Plaque (finding the nest empty at 1900), a short nest watch at Road 1, finished scrubbing the floor in Andrew's room, finally started to unpack up at the cabin. Ian left today. Non-roosting (and a short nest watch(?) at Buckeye. 15 May Nice weather, finally! Unfortunately, the day was ruined by the Plaque nest stub falling to the ground! Watched at School Hill (Lazuli Bunting, W. Tanager), Plaque. Roosting at Plaque, champagne party at Red House 16 May A very nice day indeed! A record breaking nest watch at Road 1,
