1980 R.L. Mumme Journal Hastings Reservation (16 April) out late today. A good watch at Road I was followed by Walter opening the nest at Finch (6 eggs!) I checked up on School Hill, and that about did it. A successful roosting at Gazebo. Very hot today. A Rufous-sided Towhee nest (4 eggs) near the road. 17 April First Lazuli Bunting, Black-headed Grosbeaks, Western Tanager, Chipping Sparrows seen today. I watched first at Road 1, then Plaque, then checked out Gazebo to see if they were still OK for manipulation. Roosting at Road 3, then a spaghetti rattlesnake dinner at Red House. Very hot the last two days. At this rate, things will be dry, dry, dry very soon. Already stuff is browning up, 18 April A very interesting set of watches at Low Hay and Road 1. Checking Walter the impossible nest at Road 1 produced 2 eggs! Hot dog! I also looked in on the nest at Finch, then checked the nest at School Hill. Roosting at Road 1, Robbie for dinner in the Bunkhouse 19 April A truly remarkable day! A 5am-noon watch at Road 1 produced the first record of egg-tossing for Hastings Acorn Woodpeckers! See copious road 1 notes. That pretty much took care of the entire day, although we did stage an egg-toss celebration, drinks at Will's and ice cream at Red House. Also saw my first reservation Gray Squirrel on Poison Oak Hill, just above Road 1 20 April A change in the weather was the highlight of the day, turning morning cloudy late in the afternoon, and misty and rainy in
