28 March accepted. That should help ease the housing crunch
this spring. A nice dinner at Red House with Pam, Walter, and
Nancy, [illegible] then to Hidden Valley for a performance of
Carousel, which I enjoyed. Scott & Bev Smith arrived late
this evening.
29 March A gorgeous day! Warm and springlike. Western Flycatchers,
gnatcatchers, Orange-crowned Warblers, House Wrens, and today
I had the privilege of seeing the first Bullock Orioles
down by the Lower Barn. Good watches at Hay-Blom
and Lower Haystack, a less good watch at Blom-one and
School Hill West. Roosting at Gazebo, after an incredible
display of pre-roosting mounting. 3 birds roosted in
the road hole.
30 March Cooler than yesterday. An unsuccessful ambush at
Gazebo, followed by watches at 1500 and 1800.
A nest check at 1800 proved negative. Picked up the
yellow pan bugs, helped Nancy bake a chocolate cake
then roosting at gazebo, dessert at Red House
31 March Even cooler, cloudy & windy late in the day. A partially
successful (hence unsuccessful) ambush at Gazebo to catch
the 2 breeding ♂♂. A very unsuccessful intruder experiment
at School Hill, a good watch at Road 3 & Finch.
1 April Good watch at Blomone in the AM and Westgate, gate,
and Road 1 in the PM. Dinner at Red House
2-5 April Berkeley, Walter's doctoral seminar.
6 April Started the day with an early AM watch at School Hill. Walter
and I then spent a few hours on the Arnold, checking holes,
