1980 Ronald L. Munne 5 Journal Hastings Reservation Monterey County CA 28 March accepted. That should help ease the housing crunch this spring. A nice dinner at Red House with Pam, Walter, and Nancy, [illegible] then to Hidden Valley for a performance of Carousel, which I enjoyed. Scott & Bev Smith arrived late this evening. 29 March A gorgeous day! Warm and springlike. Western Flycatchers, gnatcatchers, Orange-crowned Warblers, House Wrens, and today I had the privilege of seeing the first Bullock Orioles down by the Lower Barn. Good watches at Hay-Blom and Lower Haystack, a less good watch at Blom-one and School Hill West. Roosting at Gazebo, after an incredible display of pre-roosting mounting. 3 birds roosted in the road hole. 30 March Cooler than yesterday. An unsuccessful ambush at Gazebo, followed by watches at 1500 and 1800. A nest check at 1800 proved negative. Picked up the yellow pan bugs, helped Nancy bake a chocolate cake then roosting at gazebo, dessert at Red House 31 March Even cooler, cloudy & windy late in the day. A partially successful (hence unsuccessful) ambush at Gazebo to catch the 2 breeding ♂♂. A very unsuccessful intruder experiment at School Hill, a good watch at Road 3 & Finch. 1 April Good watch at Blomone in the AM and Westgate, gate, and Road 1 in the PM. Dinner at Red House 2-5 April Berkeley, Walter's doctoral seminar. 6 April Started the day with an early AM watch at School Hill. Walter and I then spent a few hours on the Arnold, checking holes,
