1980 Ronald L. Mumme 3 Journal Hastings Reservation, Monterey County, CA (25 Jan) the whole gang (including Pete Myers & his crew). Dave + I played guitar and mandolin. 26 Jan A nice breakfast at Red House with everybody, then Walter + I cruised up PO Hill looking for banded birds. Many Shooting Stars + Milkmaid already in bloom up there. Dinner at Red House with Dave, Suzanne, & Johnny. 27 Jan Cloudy this morning. Watched at school hill, lunch at Red House, then drove back to Berkeley at 1400, dropping a nice stray dog off at the SPCA enroute. 13 March Arrived here at 1200 on a beautiful warm day. Things very green, a few of the Valley Oaks just starting to leaf out. Willows, Buckeyes also. Popcorn flower, a few Buttercups, Viola (Johnny Jumpups) in bloom. Walt reported first gnatcatcher and OC warbler today. Watched at Blom one, largely unsuccessfully, seeing only 2 birds. At roosting, though, I flushed 3 birds out of the nest hole, while a 4th was hanging out in the tree. They need more watching. A white-tailed kite was near Blom One A memorable dinner in the bunkhouse with Nancy, Nancy & Walter + Pam. Pam brought a fine stew, while I made rice + broccoli, and a salad. All very good. For dessert, we drank the long-awaited bottle of Mum's champagne, with a cocolat chocolate cake. 14 March Began the morning with the first Western Flycatcher) singing next to the Bunkhouse. Watched at School Hill and School Hill West in the morning, seeing paired Cooper's Hawks & Golden Eagles. Red-shouldered Hawks seen seasons
