Mumme 2 Journal Hunter Liggett Military Reservation, Monterey County, CA (12 Jan) Q. douglasii (acorns of both species littered the ground in some areas) and, as far as we could tell, Q. agrifolia. (2) The woodpecker population still seems a bit low. A good proportion of the granaries there were unused. Those that were [illegible] in use were usually well-stocked with acorns. Overall, there did not seem to be an extremely abundant population, although we did watch one group of six flycatching from the top of a Digger Pine. 2 ♀ Common Mergansers Back at Hastings, Three-Penny Opera at Hidden Valley. Hastings Reservation, Monterey County, CA 13 Jan A rainy nasty day. Shelled acorns with Walter, lunch at Red House, then return to Berkeley in a driving rainstorm. 24 Jan Arrived here about 1830 after stopping by at the PSG meeting in Asilomar and suffering (and not noticing) a 5.5 earthquake centered in Livermore. At the PSG, saw Tony DeGange, Ralph BT Schriever 25 Jan Watched at Blom-one, 1500 * 1800 on this frosty-morn wart afternoon day. Things are really quite green compared to last year, the creeks are flowing, and the weather's been unusually warm. 3 Cinnamon Teal at Blomquist, and a pair of copulating Aestrels at 1500 were the days avian highlights.
