Lower Arnold 2 Hastings Reservation
(24 Aug) Black Oak (♂426 Black/Orange-white, ♂321 Metal/DBlue-Yellow(or) and ♀320 Red/Green/metal, and juv 491 Metal/Black-Red) are all hanging out here, shuttling between Black Oak and CA2. No sign of the two former CA2 residents. Abandoned because of fire?
The presence of the Bianca bird(s) suggests that they are also trying to expand over here. An unbanded ♂ also seen here. Some chasing, but never ascertained participants, other than juv 491 appeared to briefly chase someone once. Unbanded ♀ Oriole at 1250, 1305, more confusion. ♀320 flies to Bianca perches cozily with 2 ♂♂ (123+126?). One of these ♂♂ then flies up to the fringes of CA2; 1340, still more confusion. ♂321 flies to Bianca, sits cozily with another bird in the Valley Oak (see Bianca notes). 1350, ♂102 White/Yellow at LA2, in Valley oak east of Blue Oak. First time he is confirmed as present. 1400, ♀427 completes the Black Oak census at LA2.' Hold it, all I saw was DBlue/Red wasn't sure which leg. Could have been original LA2 ♀! Given the general situation, however, ♀427 seems much more likely. ♀320 at 1410 again flies toward the Bianca Valley Oak, greeted with warbles by unknown birds. Bianca seems more likely, but since ♂321 was in the same tree earlier, who knows. Lots of worm eating and flycatching today. End watch 1430
25 Aug 1045, a NBO♂ forritting from the granary. Black Oak birds not around, but while watching at Bianca earlier, I had gotten the impression that they were here (saw juv. 491 in the area for sure). Obviously, this territory is still in a state of confusion.
26 Aug Today I saw some of the Black Oak birds at Bianca, (see Bianca notes)
