1979 Ronald L. Mumme Melanerpes formicivorus Arnold I Hastings Reservation 28 April Start watch 0900. Unbanded ♀ around, plus a banded ♂. I read lower band of left leg as Yellow-Darkgreen / (Yellow - ___)?), but I didn't really get a good enough look at the upper band to call it. Looked like a yellow or orange split band. End 1015 27 June Watched roosting here, and two birds roosted in the granary cavity that faces the road, where two nests failed earlier in the spring. 6 July A successful ambush here, catching just the unbanded ♀ at the former Big Tree Roost hole. 25 Aug Start watch 1055. Both birds, ♂100 Yellow-Dgreen / Yellow-Dgreen and ♀505 white/L Pink here hanging around granary. ♀ worked a green Valley Oak acorn (FD). 28 Oct Sat by the granary for a few minutes, seeing nothing. Just a few (~100) acorns stored here so far.
